About 18 residents from Westminster Place attended last week’s meeting with Tom Klein of Windows on Washington. Overall it was a very positive meeting with the majority of those present supporting his efforts. For those who were not able to attend here are a few highlights of what was discussed:
Windows on Washington is owned by Michelle and Tom Klein 100% via an LLC. They currently own and run two facilities. See <www.wowbanquets.com>
The facility would be used for private banquets with over 85% being wedding ceremonies and receptions.
There is no retail “sale to the public” business associated with this facility.
Most events will be held on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays, and will end between 11:00 pm and midnight.
This facility would be named Windows off Washington @ St. John’s.
The facility would be renovated with two dining rooms used for dinners and banquets. The sanctuary and the smaller chapel will be restored and used for ceremonies and recitals.
All meeting rooms would be enhanced to support the dining facilities.
Renovations will also add a new elevator and all bathroom facilities and kitchen will be updated to code.
At a maximum capacity, each dining room could hold 225 guests.
The parking lot will be resurfaced and fenced so that it could accommodate 118-122 spaces with an estimated 3.5 guests per parking facility.
Mr. Klein will be talking with the new owners of the church across the street to potentially rent space.
If you live within 350 feet from the city’s measurement of St John’s, you will be asked to sign off on the plan.
WOW@St John’s will apply for a conditional liquor license to 1 AM. There would be no alcohol sale to public, just a license to serve if an event should run that late.
Next steps:
Residents are encouraged to put together a list of concerns and provide them to the board via Kathy at kathykoch9@yahoo.com. They will be forwarded en masse to Tom so that he may address them. Please do this ASAP, perhaps by Friday, October 31st. If residents seem supportive of his efforts, Mr. Klein will proceed with the purchase of St John’s. After the sale is finalized, zoning hearings would take place.
