From Gregg Williams:
THE DAY: Operation Brightside will take place on Saturday May 2nd. For
those not familiar with Operation Brightside, neighbors come together
with rakes, hoes and gloves etc to pitch in to make the street and
alleys tidier and better. Sort of a “many hands make light work”
approach… or “it’s a lot more fun when there’s a bunch of fun people
tackling the work!” We need your help. Here’s a quick look at some of
the activities:
THE MONUMENTS: The board will be buying plants for the monuments.
We’ll need a group to paint, leaf cleanup, etc. Sprucing it up, if you
will.
SPEED BUMPS and YELLOW CURBS: A fresh coat needs to be added.
(We will roll rather then spray this time)
THE ALLEYS:
We are also adopting the adage (and here we sort of made this up…)
“Beauty begets beauty; mess begets mess.”
That said, we are hoping that all of us take a look at our alleys and
try to fix them up so that the demise doesn’t continue, but rather
becomes better. The south alley is in great shape. Because the land is
flatter, it doesn’t have the issues of crumbling retaining walls. And
most, if not all, the fences are newer and in great shape. Owners on
the north side need to take a critical look at their alley and
determine what is possible for them in order to make it a better place
and reflect a sense of caring, which we hope will influence positive
alley behaviors ; garbage in the dumpsters, picking up litter,
disposing of things correctly, etc.
Our thoughts are that the folks that volunteer to work as a
coordinated group on our Operation Brightside day should spend most of
their efforts on common areas and not behind a property because that
property owner has let that area deteriorate.
We will be sending individual e-mails to homeowners if there are areas
that we feel could/should be addressed by the homeowner.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding that these types of
communications are sensitive and our efforts are an attempt to make
our street an even better “Place” then it is.
Thanks so much for reading and considering and hopefully participating
in Operation Brightside. We’ll be sending out more information as it
gets closer.
